My story around finding your voice takes me back to when I was nine years old and my mom enlisted my help to talk to my father and ask him to stop drinking. I took this job very seriously and for the next twenty plus years this became my mission in life, to do everything in my power to get my father sober. This attitude permeated in other areas of my life as I took it upon myself to fix other people’s problems, whether this meant money-wise, time-wise, or in anything they needed. However, the more attention I put on others’ needs and expectations, the more I lost myself in the process. My needs, my wants and my voice were nowhere to be found.
When I was in my early thirties, I felt stuck in a life that I didn’t want to live. I read all the self-help books you could imagine, spent money and time attending personal development conferences and purchasing programs that sounded helpful but still didn’t know how to put them all into action..
Around this time, a dear friend introduced me to someone who became my mentor and under his guidance, my life was transformed. I was able to get out of the rut I found myself in and began taking baby steps to redefine myself and rediscover the parts of me that had been buried underneath everyone else’s expectations. The results have been life-changing. Shortly after, I met and married a wonderful man who loves and supports me in every way. I was able to be fully present to tend to my mother when she became ill with cancer. Today, I have a loving and caring relationship with my father based on mutual respect, understanding and acceptance and all the while finding the courage to voice my desires.
This is why I decided to be a confidence coach…so that I can show other women they don’t have to live in loneliness and frustration, and that this can be accomplished with simple mindset shifts and small action steps. And the good news is that these elements are learnable.
Which brings us to you. What kind of caring woman are you wanting to be?
